From the vast arid Karoo plains and grasslands of the Free State, dominated by towering thunderstorms overhead, to a rugged coastline battered by raging winter seas, Casey captures the moods of this country of contrasts. There is something intrinsically beautiful and pristine of these isolated areas where the actions of man are dissipated to triviality. One can only stand wrapt in awe at the pounding surf and imperial headland at Cape Point - the dwarfed lighthouse perched precariously below low lying mist. Late afternoon brings a dynamic spectacle as writhing mist and light create artistry in the Slanghoek Valley amphitheatre. The subject is elevated from the mundane through the use of colour & tone and technique and even the very subject may carry emotional undertones.

Being the great grandson of Tinus de Jongh, it was only natural that his artistic evolution would develop along similar lines. Casey van der Leek is a totally self taught artist which makes his technical mastery in various mediums that more impressive; highly proficient at sketching he has, since his early years, built up a broad knowledge base, appreciation and understanding of the works of other artists. His technical mastery ranges from oils, watercolours to pencil and chalk and over a wide range of subject matter.
